My name is Craig I drive an AE86, if you've been to a drift event in Oregon in the last 2 years then chances are you've seen me drive. My car is slowly being transformed from a total beater into a decent drift car. I'm a club representative of LokiMotorSports and I'm always down to check out new events and venues.

Just out of curiosity, about how much have you spent on your Corolla so far?

To a beginner, would you recommend building up a car from the 80s or finding something newer? (for cost-effectiveness, I mean.)

well AE86's aren't very cost effective and they have some limitations. the best bang for yer buck has to be an S13 or an S14. There a lot of em every one makes aftermarket parts, there's a lot of engine swaps available and a lot of information on just about anything you could ever want to do to one readily available. Drifting is an expensive sport so when your on a budget its bets to go with what everyone has.

I like the AE86 cuz its got the underdog feel too it, and imho its one of the more difficult cars to drift due to the lack of power and its some what simplistic design, but I also really like the feeling of driving it well and beating out guys with more power and overall better cars cuz when it comes right down to it drifting is way more about skill then the equipment, but unfortunately AE86 parts aren't very cheap in comparison to S chassis parts.
