My name is Craig I drive an AE86, if you've been to a drift event in Oregon in the last 2 years then chances are you've seen me drive. My car is slowly being transformed from a total beater into a decent drift car. I'm a club representative of LokiMotorSports and I'm always down to check out new events and venues.

my car is a 1985 Toyota Corolla GTS Zenki

no name fuel pressure regulator
MAF to MAP conversion

Drive Line:
Cusco RS 1.5 way LSD
4.77:1 final drive R&P with custom machined solid pinion spacer
ACT stage 2 clutch with 6 puck sprung clutch disk and heavy duty pressure plate
custom made stainless steel braided clutch line

Suspension:
Megan V2 Coilovers with spindles
Megan RCA's
Prothane polyurethane suspension bushings
Techno Toy Tuning adjustable Lateral bar
Godspeed way bars front and rear

Steering:
Quaife QSR kit
MR2 Manual rack conversion with supra MKIII I shaft
Techno toy tuning passenger side adapter bushing

Brakes:
Slotted cross drilled rotors front and rear
semi-metalic pads front and rear
Techo Toy tuning spin turn knob
Goodridge Stainless Steel brake lines

Interior:
Megan racing bucket seat
buddy club down low seat rails
knockoff TRD shift knob
NRG wheel
MOMO steering hub

theres probably more that I forgotten. I also run a website

Hi Craig, I've seen your car drifting around the internet a LOT. Good stuff every time. Keep it up!

Just out of curiosity, about how much have you spent on your Corolla so far?

To a beginner, would you recommend building up a car from the 80s or finding something newer? (for cost-effectiveness, I mean.)

Thanks!

well AE86's aren't very cost effective and they have some limitations. the best bang for yer buck has to be an S13 or an S14. There a lot of em every one makes aftermarket parts, there's a lot of engine swaps available and a lot of information on just about anything you could ever want to do to one readily available. Drifting is an expensive sport so when your on a budget its bets to go with what everyone has.

I like the AE86 cuz its got the underdog feel too it, and imho its one of the more difficult cars to drift due to the lack of power and its some what simplistic design, but I also really like the feeling of driving it well and beating out guys with more power and overall better cars cuz when it comes right down to it drifting is way more about skill then the equipment, but unfortunately AE86 parts aren't very cheap in comparison to S chassis parts.
